MATCH REPORT

VWFC 0 - 2 St Panteleimon

4th December 2021
Combined Counties Premier Division North

This was a terrific match, played in difficult windy conditions.

VW felt they deserved a share of the spoils, but were left to rue three good first half chances, that Turnell Sinclair, Harry Brooks and Leo Pedro all could have done a little better, in addition to a strong penalty appeal that was turned down for a blatant push on Joe McBride.

Fielding 4 Under 18 players, three of those in the back four, VW can be proud of their defensive performance against a powerful SP side.

Indeed, in the first half, the opposition barely had a shot on goal, and as stated above, had we taken our chances, and capitalised on numerous set pieces, it could have been a different outcome.

In the second half, with the elements in their favour, SP piled on the pressure, but VW remained resolute, with Matt rarely troubled in goal.

It took a wonder strike by their Captain on 75 minutes to break the deadlock, finding the bottom corner from 20 yards.

VW were deflated, and the visitors scored a decisive goal from close range in the final 10 minutes, which gave the game a flattering score line.

Delighted with the performance of VW, in particular the younger lads for acquitting themselves so well.

We wish St Pantelimon the best of luck for the remainder of the season.
