Dave McBride - Chairman Statement

This is the first time we have produced a News Letter from the club, but following a club meeting with all the managers and officials, we felt it important to let everyone involved with Virginia Water FC know where the club is and what is needed in order to keep the club moving forward.

When I agreed to be Chairman of the club 8 years ago the brief was clear, we had one adult side that was facing a £500 fine and points deduction from the league they were playing in because of ill discipline and poor administration and a team that was deflated and unmotivated due to a lack of ambition.

We embarked on a program of reform both on and off the pitch with the late club secretary Graham Porter and Club Manager Ceri Jones.

8 Years later Virginia Water FC is one of the most respected clubs in Surrey, the 1 st team are playing at the highest level in the clubs 100 year history having had two promotions and a cup win, we now participate in both the FA Vase and FA Cup each season.

We can do this because we made the decision to ground share with Windsor FC for our 1st team games in order to meet the strict ground grading requirements that came with the success of promotions and as you can imagine this comes with a heavy financial cost each season.

We have a Reserve Team that play at step 9 in the Surrey Intermediate division 1. The average age of the team is 22, providing a pathway from the youth section through to adult football.

When I took on the role of Chairman my main ambition was to create a club for the community, not just the adults but for the children as well, we now have 12 youth teams representing Virginia Water and with our relationship with JA Sports our Foundation Academy (4-6 year olds) make sure that at least one team joins the family every year.

THE FUTURE

We want to bring the 1 st Team back to Virginia Water from Windsor and create a new football hub in Virginia Water for the community. To this end we are planning a move to a new site in Bridge Lane, here are a few images of what we have planned

Ground1.jpg

We will keep The Timbers purely for the use of the youth teams, but with the new site being the latest 3G surface all the clubs training needs will be in house.

We have most of the funding applications in, but cannot finalize anything until planning has been awarded.

So for now we will continue to ground share at Windsor and operate as normal at the Timbers, both these come with considerable costs as the Timbers is in need of continual maintenance on and of the pitch

This can only be done with the support of you and the local business community bay way of sponsorship as in order for us to operate the club we need to generate in excess of £60,000 a year.
