MATCH REPORT
Holyport 1 - 0 VWFC
15th January 2022
Combined Counties Premier North
VW lost this basement battle to a last minute goal, in the most difficult of playing conditions, not that this is an excuse for a poor second half display.

Waters had much the better of the first half, and were left to rue at least 6 gilt edged chances, which Turnell, Cadell, Adam and Casey all failed to convert.

At the other end, Luke did make two terrific saves to keep the score at 0-0, but the missed chances and such a strong start, was not capitalised upon.
The second half had very few chances for either side, and became a long ball ‘bore’ as the surface got so heavy and not condusive to a decent football match.

That said, Holyport were the better in the second half, and bombarded VW with a barrage of long throws and set pieces, which with a scrambled affair in the last minute, got them the win they so desperately craved.

VW did not deal with matters as well as the first half, and it showed, as Holyport fought for everything and won their personal battles – credit to them.
In injury time, VW still should have got their deserved draw at least, but their keeper made another two terrific point blank saves to deny Adam and Turnell, and had a blatant penalty appeal for hand ball rejected by the officials?

A bad day at the office after the euphoria of last week’s win, but VW must now show some character and react to the loss.
We wish Holyport the best of luck for the remainder of the season.
