Following Water's victory over Winslow United in the second qualifying round of the Izuzu FA Vase, Virginia Water will play Whitstable Town on Saturday 19th October in the First Round Proper. It is another trip to the coast for Waters, after being drawn away to Eastbourne in the Emirates FA Cup in 2022. Waters will be hoping for better fortune on this coastline this time, having lost that tie on penalties.

 

Having been given a bye in the first qualifying round, Waters hosted Winslow United in the second qualifying stage. Substitute Adrin Tajik scored the only goal of the game to see Waters into the first round proper. Waters will be hoping to go at least one better than last season, when they succumbed to another penatly shoot out against Woodley United in this round of the competition last season. This will be another first meeting for VWFC, with the two teams having never met before, and Waters will be looking for a positive trip to the Kent based club.

Whitstable have reached this stage for the first time since the 2016-17 season, although of course they did not compete in the FA Vase while in the Isthmian League. They reached the Third Round in that season, beating FC Elmstead, Lancing (in an incredible game that ended 6-5), Saltdean and Epsom & Ewell before losing 2-0 to Chichester City. The best ever FA Vase run for Whitstable was achieved in 1996-97, when they reached the last 16 before losing 1-0 at North Ferriby United in the Fifth Round.
