VWFC 1 - 1 Egham Town

VWFC 1 v Egham Town 1

(VW win 5-4 pens)

23rd November 2021
Surrey Senior County Cup

VW triumphed with a deserved win over close neighbours and friends at Egham Town, albeit only after the dreaded penalties.

In our opinion, VW were the better side on the night and had more of clear cut chances.

Leo Pedro went close three times in the first half, one shot brilliantly saved by the Egham keeper, following the move of the game when Ross Nunn back heeled a pass into the path of debutant Max Worsfold, who put Leo through, only to be foiled by the save.

Turnell Sinclair again posed a real threat and also went close, as did Joe McBride with a strong run from the back and curling left foot shot.

At the other end, we defended very well, limiting the visitors to some shots, which Matt in goal dealt with.

At the break it remained 0-0.

VW started the second half well, and took the lead on 61 minutes, when Harry Brooks and Max combined, to put Leo through, and this time his shot beat their keeper at the near post.

Rather than sit back, VW went for the second, with Harry, Michael Chambers and Travis Hodge all going close.

In fairness to Egham, they were a threat on the counter, and forced Matt into a great one handed save late on.

Then with the game seemingly won, in the last minute a long headed clearance by Egham, found their striker, who raced through to equalise at the second attempt, having seen his first effort rebound off a post.

All square at the, and it was left to Matt to score the fifth and decisive penalty, to win 5-4, having seen the visitors miss their third spot kick.

Credit to VW having lost in the league earlier in the season at Egham, who deserved the win on the night, and scored all five of their penalties.

We wish Egham well for the remainder of the season.
