VWFC vs Chalvey Sports Reserves

15/12/2018 Virginia Water Devs 3-1 Chalvey Sports Reserves
Hellenic Division Two

Virginia Water’s Development side braved the extreme weather in their home game against Chalvey Sports Reserves, on another very wet rainy afternoon. From their last match at Chalvey earlier in the season, Waters were expecting another very physical game with some over the top challenges. But, to be fair this was a different Chalvey team with some good players who tried to - and did - play some good football. However, they came up against a very determined Waters team who themselves played some neat, good football despite the conditions.

There were a few changes and new faces that came into the team, given a chance to impress. Maciej Tajs, making his debut up front for the home side, had an excellent game; being strong, bringing a lot of energy and scorer of two goals. Dean Guy came into the centre of defence and did a good job alongside Ross Miller- both impressive in the air and showed good touches on the ground. Ray Markham and Fabio Thercaj came off the bench in the second half and both made their claims to be more involved for future matches. Thercaj, in particular with his goal, scoring with an excellent left foot finish and also providing an assist for Tajs’ second goal.

The first half saw Waters on the front foot scoring first with some creative work down the right and a neat close range finish from Tajs. Chalvey got back into the game with an extremely dubious penalty for an apparent push from Guy, when it seemed clear to most a good tackle was made. The penalty kick itself was saved well by Dan Roach in goal but penalty taker Alfie Clarke followed up first and dispatched the rebound to make it 1-1.

The second half was tight with both teams looking to take the three points but it was Waters who finished stronger with Thercaj and Tajs scoring the deserved winning goals for the home side. The Devs finish the year with an away trip to bottom of the league Chinnor Reserves, and will be looking to finish the year strongly with two wins on the spin.
