Waters Restructure for 2018/19
With the club's promotion to the Hellenic Premier Division, Virginia Water have restructured their teams for the upcoming season. Whilst there are no changes to the first team structure, the decision by the club has been made to discontinue the Reserve team, and instead replace it with a new Development Squad in a bid to provide the first team with the younger talent that is currently playing football at the club. The decision coincided with Reserve manager Rob Lamb's decision to step down from the role at the end of the 2017/18 season and chairman Dave McBride saw that as the ideal time to make the club changes, "We have a good crop of younger players at the club and it is now an ideal time that we make them a priority for us, giving them the opportunity to play at the Hellenic level. The first team worked their socks off last season, but if we are honest with ourselves, there was not a great deal of squad depth. With the new development squad we are looking to nurture our younger players and in turn provide them with that pathway to playing first team football."
Colin Hodgkinson takes control of the Development Squad as manager, with Dan Basheer being promoted to assistant manager, having managed the A's team for the last two seasons. Dave Atkins stays on as head coach and Pete Stevens makes up the management team as coach, having also previously worked with Basheer with the A's.
With Basheer and Stevens now working with the Development squad, it does mean that the A's team is currently managerless, with the club advertising and actively seeking a new manager for the side. Any applicants for the position are encouraged to contact the chairman Dave McBride by email to
