Youth Teams Seasons Kick Off

Virginia Water FC's youth and junior teams kicked off their seasons on Sunday 18th September. With the number of junior teams having grown since last season, the club will be looking to all teams to enjoy their football and develop further - in particular the two under 16's teams, where the club aims to retain the majority of the players for the mens' teams next season.

The U16's, newly promoted into the top tier of the SPL, began their season with a credible 2-2 draw away to Elm Grove Colts Tornadoes. New signings Josh Richards and Alex Robins were on the scoresheet for Pete Stevens' side, who will be hoping to challenge for honours this season.

The U16 Reds began their season with a home victory, also against Elm Grove Colts, winning 3-1 with goals from Shane Smith (2) and Charlie Barnett. Manager Steve Fuidge and his team are new to the club and will be delighted with their start in the SPL Premier Dvision.

Water's new U14 Reds team unfortunately had their game against Guildford postponed due to some players being away on a school trip, so they will begin their campaign away to Windlesham on the 25th September. The management team of Scott Markham and Tom Dawson will be hoping to make a good impression, having recently joined the club with their team in the summer.

Andy Ingram's returning U14's began life in Division 1 with a comprehensive victory away to Hersham Harriers. Last seaon's top scorer Liam Vass continued his fine form with a hat trick, and additional goals from George Doran and new signing Dan Fewster added up to a 5-2 victory for the young Waters' side.

The U12's team, despite only having 8 players available on the day, produced a gutsy display to draw away to Goldsworth Park Rangers Titans. Leo Johnson, Jaiden Hilliard and Tommy Kirkhope grabbed the goals for Matt Jones' side in a 3-3 thriller!

There was also a debut game for the newly created U10's side, Waters' youngest age group this season. The team played their first ever game away to Staines Town Juniors, and the players will be looking forward to developing and learning more about the game. Milan Bartram and Laith Freeman were able to score a goal each in the game, although the matches are non-competitive and scores are not recorded.

All teams are in action again this coming weekend, with 4 home games at The Timbers!
