Waters' U16 side
Virginia Water's Under 16 Maroons kept their 100% winning record intact with another dominant performance away to Premier Elite division side Claygate Royals Swans in the SPL Senior Cup. Although being a division lower, Waters started brightly with early shots from Tyler Bourne, George Ford and Ryan Procter testing the opposition's goalkeeper.
It appeared as though the first goal was just a matter of timing and when Claygate failed to clear their lines, George Ford opened the scoring with an excellent 15-yard weaker foot lob over the stranded goalkeeper. Waters grew in confidence and with a bizarre, yet goal of the season contender, George Miller curled in an in-swinging corner that flew into the far top corner without a touch from anyone else.
Just before the stroke of half time, Bourne made a chance out of nothing for himself, using his pace and strength to gather a loose back pass, and rounding the goalkeeper only for a defender to clear off the line and away for another corner kick. Waters were confident and comfortable with their two goal cushion at half time.
Despite not having regular goalkeeper Jamie Kokubun available, Reece Collins deputised and had a quiet morning before being beaten by a stunning strike from 25 yards, that he could do nothing about. This buoyed the home side and made the final 15 minutes nervy for Waters, particularly as another goal would have seen the tie go straight to penalties.
However, using their experience, the game was seen out without too much pressure exerted onto the away side and Waters claimed another win and progressed into the next round of the League Cup, to go along with last week's progression in the County Cup.
