VWFC vs Thame Rangers Dev.
02/04/2018 Virginia Water Reserves 11-1 Thame Rangers Development
Hellenic Division Two East
Report by Steve Cox
Virginia Water Reserves were playing their second game in 3 days, again on the 4G at Royal Holloway University, and put a weakened Thame Rangers Development side to the sword with the biggest win for some at the club.
Waters had first to get over the embarrassment of going 1-0 down as a clumsy challenge for the hard working Ross Miller allowed Thame to score from the spot after 10 minutes. However, not for the first time this weekend, enter the telepathic twosome of Harrison Duff and Harry Brooks; Brooks, after great right wing play, teed up Duff to fire the ball coolly home from 12 yards.
Brooks followed this up with a solo run from midfield cruising through the static Thame defence to score a beautiful individual goal to give Waters a 2-1 lead. Sam Meadows, playing well, got Waters’ third after great play again from Brooks and it seemed all over bar the paying up when Steve Mills scored Waters’ fourth after 39 minutes.
The second half was a rout, Thame’s ageing centre halves were terrorised by the pace, power and strength of the introduced sub Scott Ancell, as he grabbed four goals. Mills, Arron Nevitt and Duff grabbed the other goals as Waters ran riot.
Once again it was impossible not to appreciate the effort of Luke Sperling who totally bossed the midfield all match and the rising reputations of Harrison Duff and Harry Brooks who made it worth the time of 1st team manager Ceri Jones - who came down to watch this one sided match.
