Thame Rangers Dev vs VWFC
21/10/2017 Thame Rangers Dev 1-0 Virginia Water Reserves
Hellenic League Division Two East
Report by Rob Lamb
Virginia Water Reserves travelled to Thame but the high winds unfortunately ruined this particular match for both teams.
The game wasn't enjoyable for either side, the players struggled for large parts of the game battling against the elements and the wind must have been around 80 miles an hour at times, it was crazy to think that the game should have gone ahead.
Although, it was the wind that helped the home side get their winning goal, when the Thame goalkeeper's free kick from 60 yards out flew past Mark Pisani in the 25th minute of the game.
that was as good as the game got, with hardly any shots from either side. The away side struggled to put at least four passes together in the first half, and three passes at best in the second half. This wasn't due to the team's performance but the terrible conditions in which they had to play. The strong winds meant that at some stages when the ball was kicked in the air it would go back past the player kicking it!
Should the game have been played? Thame would have said yes as they got the result they wanted, but the Water's reserves management were not so sure.
