VWFC vs Spelthorne Sports

31/07/2018 Virginia Water 5-4 Spelthorne Sports
Pre-Season Friendly
Report by Ceri Jones

Virginia Water completed their pre-season preparations with a high scoring win over their near neighbours Spelthorne Sports at The Timbers on Tuesday evening.

The home side dominated for the first hour, and raced into a 4-0 lead with goals from Marc Lansdowne, Harvey Griffiths, Steve Williams and Scott ‘Lord’ Jackson.

Waters then made many changes, introducing some younger players and, to the visitors’ credit, Spelthorne hit back hard with some good goals of their own.

Spelthorne reduced the deficit to 4-3, before Josh Hill smashed home a free kick to clinch the win – or so Waters thought! Back came Spelthorne with another late goal to make it 5-4.

Despite having some shots cleared off the line and a few other chances narrowly going wide, Waters did not close out the game like they should have, which was manager Ceri Jones’ only concern.

A good pre-season ends and Waters now look forward to the daunting task of a visit to Flackwell Heath on the 7th August for their debut at Step 5 on the non-league pyramid.

Good luck to Spelthorne for the season ahead.
