VWFC vs Fleet Town
28/07/2018 Virginia Water 0-0 Fleet Town
Pre-Season Friendly
Report by Ceri Jones
Virginia Water completed a hectic week with a good performance and deserved draw against Step 4 Fleet Town, who have undergone some recent turmoil – Waters wish them well!
Neither team did enough to win the match, so both sides will have pleased with the clean sheet - with defences on top for the majority of the game.
For Waters, Josh Guichard hit a post with a header, Finn Evered, Marc Lansdowne had efforts cleared off the line and Michael Chambers, and Adam McNamara went close late on in the game.
At the other end, Matt Jones made a couple of excellent saves in goal and the visitors also hit the bar in the closing stages – so all-in-all it was honours even.
Both teams used a significant number of substitutes, as one would expect, but in very warm weather no one gave an inch and battled in a spirited way to the end.
Lansdowne (MoM) and the rest of the defence stood out, with Josh Guichard and McNamara tirelessly driving Waters forward in attack.
Waters now have one more pre-season game on Tuesday, when they welcome Spelthorne Sports to the Timbers, in what will be another tough local derby.
Good luck to Fleet Town and their management team for the coming season.
