Waters in action against Shrivenham
It was a disappointing day, effort and performance, as Virginia Water lost to a terrific goal, in a match played in difficult conditions. To be fair to both sides, they cancelled each other out, with very few clear chances for either team and both goalkeepers having little to do.
With the elements in favour of the visitors in the first half, Shrivenham started the brighter, and their goal on 27 minutes came when Waters rashly threw a throw-in into the path of Shrivenham captain Sam Ockwell, who hit a great strike that carried with the wind and left Matt Jones stranded in goal. Other than this standout effort, both sides huffed and puffed, but as alluded to, there were few chances worthy of any note.
In the second half, with the wind in their favour, it was thought that Waters would kick on, but sadly, they failed to create any meaningful chances, and only had some long distance shots and a number of corners to show for their slack efforts. The visitors deserved their win; they were stronger in the challenge and managed the game impressively well.
Waters will look to bounce back Tuesday evening against Holmer Green, and Waters wish Shrivenham well as they continue to climb up the table.
