Sandhurst Town vs VWFC
31/10/2017 Sandhurst Town 1-2 Virginia Water
Hellenic Division One East
Report by Ceri Jones

There were no tricks, only treats, on a terrific Halloween night as Virginia Water ground out a battling victory against an equally resilient and quality Sandhurst Town side.
Both teams did their best to play on a difficult surface, with the home side having the better of the first quarter.
The match changed in Waters’ favour when on 24 minutes, Adam McNamara and Ryan Curtis combined down the right, for the former to cross to the back post, where Dan Whatford calmly slotted home. Chances to both sides were not plentiful, although the home side clipped the bar late in the half.
At 1-0 up at half time, Waters were in control and well organised but conceded a sloppy equaliser less than a minute into the second half. Sandhurst striker and player-manager Luke Turkington pounced on a mistake to slot passed Matt Jones in the Waters goal.
Sandhurst then had their best period of the game, but the Waters defence held firm.
After riding out the storm they kicked on, and from a long Finn Evered throw, McNamara pounced to volley in from close range on 67 minutes.
The home side pushed for another equaliser, but Waters did not buckle under some strong aerial threats.
At the other end the away side could have scored again with Josh Guichard, Whatford and Evered all going close.
It was a real hard fought game, not deserving of all the yellow cards handed out, albeit Waters manager Ceri Jones felt his side edged it on the night, and thankfully came away with all the points.
