VWFC vs Maidenhead Utd Dev
29/07/2017 Virginia Water 1 - 0 Maidenhead United Dev
Report by Ceri Jones
Virginia Water continued their impressive pre-season form with a hard fought win over a skilful and very fit Maidenhead United team.
It was no more than Waters deserved, as they had more of the chances on a 2:1 ratio, and had they shown a little more composure in the final third, could have won by more than the resulting score line.
To be fair to the away side they started the brighter, but found Waters’ defence in great form, in particular Liam Hill at full back and the centre half pairing of Michael Chambers (MoM) and Adam Mills.
When the defence was breached Matt Jones was in fine form in goal, making some excellent saves, and preserving a third clean sheet out of the four games.
At the other end, Waters went close a number of times in the first half, with Josh Guichard, Paul Burrows, Martin Peters, Sam Devoil and others, all going close, as well as having one effort cleared off the line.
There was no score in the first half, but once again Waters picked up the pace, and created a few more chances in the second half, with Burrows in particular having a number of good shots on goal.
The winner, when it came, was headed in by Chambers from one of many Liam Hill set pieces.
Although Maidenhead had their chances too, manager Ceri Jones felt his side deserved the win, in another terrific workout for both teams.
Waters wish their opponents well for the season ahead.
