VWFC vs Milton United
26/09/2017 Virginia Water 3 - 1 Milton United
Perpetua Press Floodlit Cup
Report by Ceri Jones
Virginia Water progressed into the next round of the Perpetua Press Floodlit Cup after a convincing win over an improving Milton United side.
Indeed, were it not for some excellent saves by the Milton goalkeeper, the scoreline could and should have been higher.
Both sides gave it their all in an entertaining encounter, with honours even in the early exchanges.
The home side broke the deadlock when the returning Josh Guichard hit a fantastic volley from the edge of the box, into the top right hand corner on 24 minutes.
Milton equalised on 28 minutes when they scored direct from a free kick, that beat Mark Pisani in goal for Waters.
The home team’s response was quick and terrific, with chances falling to Adam McNamara, Guichard, Josh Hill, Joe McBride and Sam Devoil - all of whom played their part.
Waters nudged in front when Finn Evered (MoM) saw his cross-shot curl into the corner of the net on 39 mins.
Waters then went 3-1 up when McNamara presented a chance to Guichard, which he buried on 44 mins.
The second half was pretty much one-way traffic, with some of Waters’ football a joy to watch as they streamed forward with fluent passing and movement.
Somehow they failed to add to the score, mainly down to the goalkeeper, with Dan Whatford, Adam Mills, Evered, Devoil, Louis Sanders and Ryan Curtis, all going close.
Manager Ceri Jones was delighted to return to winning ways after three matches without a win, in a great match and in front of a large midweek crowd.
