Windsor vs VWFC

25/07/2017 Windsor 1 -1 Virginia Water
Pre-Season Friendly
Report by Ceri Jones

Virginia Water were involved in another terrific pre-season encounter, in front of a very large crowd against friends and landlords at Windsor FC.

The home side certainly had the better of the early exchanges, albeit without creating many clear cut chances.

Waters battled hard to get a foot hold in the game, and likewise failed to create too much early on.

Windsor went ahead with a great finish by their striker Kieran Knight, who latched on to a through ball, after Waters had been caught in possession just outside the area.

To their credit the away side then began to play and had a few shots from distance, and forcing a few corners and set pieces of their own. But the half ended with Windsor on top and deservedly ahead 1-0.

The second half was a complete reversal (and some) of the first half. Waters dominated from the start with excellent impact coming off the bench. Josh Guichard went close with a low left foot shot, Paul Burrows had some good efforts of his own, and the passing, movement and fitness started to hold Waters in good stead.

The equaliser came just after the hour, when Adam Mills (MoM) flicked on a corner, for the impressive and predatory Sam Devoil, to volley into the top corner.

Soon after Matt Jones made a great double save to keep the scores level, but rather than resting on the draw, Waters really kicked on and somehow failed to capitalise on a number of chances to win it.

Burrows forced a good save from the keeper, Michael Chambers went close with two point-blank headers. Mills also with another header, then Devoil - after some good link up play by Burrows and Guichard - saw his volley agonisingly bounce back off the post, with the goalkeeper beaten.

It was an entertaining match, with both sides not content for a draw and played in competitive spirit on the amazing pitch at Stag Meadow.

Waters wish Windsor well in their first season in the Hellenic Premier Division, as well as being content with themselves on another impressive work out against higher opposition.
