Battersea Ironside vs VWFC
24/09/2016 Battersea Ironside 2 - 6 Virginia Water
Surrey Elite League
Report by Ceri Jones
Another fantastic win for Virginia Water, that cements them in 2nd place in the league, but with the gap now down to one point.
Whilst not being at their best, the goals scored, goals conceded and goal difference are all now the best in the league!!
Goals from Adam Mills, Ryan Curtis (2), Adam McNamara, Max Samyint and Tom Curran, ensured a comfortable win, although it was always a physical battle against a strong Battersea side.
With the wind at their backs Waters limped to a 2-0 half time lead, with the back five only pressured by the aerial bombardment, and Matt Jones forced into one great save low down to his right. Waters should have been further ahead, but with the wind in their faces in the second half they got their game together and played some excellent football.
Battersea’s goals came from defensive lapses, albeit Waters were always in control, and raised the tempo when needed.
Josh Hill, Finn Evered (MoM), Marc Lansdowne and Samyint all excelled at the back, and the midfield guys of Steve Williams, Andy Ingram, Joe McBride and Mills controlled the game.
It was great to see Curtis and McNamara linking so well, and could have got more than the score suggested, with Curtis unlucky not to get a hat-trick, after two terrific strikes. McNamara too, on another day would have got a few more for all his effort.
Encouraging to see Martin Peters and Curran come off the bench and do so well, and slot into the side effortlessly.
A brilliant win for Waters maintains their momentum with four straight wins, unbeaten in six.
Well done lads!
Happy days!
