VWFC v Bracknell Town
20/03/2018 Virginia Water 0-1 Bracknell Town
Bluefin Sports Challenge Cup
Report by Ceri Jones
Tuesday saw a terrific game at Stag Meadow between two entertaining sides, in front of a bumper crowd. The only shame was that there had to be a loser! Virginia Water proved more than a match for promotion seeking Premier Division side Bracknell Town, and although the visitors had more chances, the home side felt a little unlucky in the end not have taken a draw within the 90 minutes.
The home defence were the busiest, and the back five (indeed the whole side) were awesome throughout, with Adam Mills (MoM) the stand out player, keeping Seb Bowerman quiet for the whole 90 minutes – which is no mean feat!
Clear-cut chances were not plentiful, albeit the effort from both sides certainly was, with the home side’s shots on goal coming from Adam McNamara, Lorenzo Di Felice and Josh Guichard, and Waters were forcing a number of corners.
At the other end Waters’ defence held firm, with Matt Jones in goal making a couple of good saves and impressing with his handling and distribution, ably supported by such an excellent back four performance.
It took a great goal on 44 minutes to get the win for Bracknell, which TJ Bohane took in his stride to hit an unstoppable first time shot into the bottom left hand corner.
The pattern was much the same in the second half; Bowerman hit the post for Bracknell, but Waters had their moments too, with some last ditch tackling saving Bracknell, and Chris Grace in goal proving a real barrier to beat.
Manager Ceri Jones was pleased to see that his young Waters side have proven they can be very competitive with a couple of the best sides in the Premier Division, and wish Bracknell every success as they chase honours of their own.
