VWFC vs Worplesdon Phoenix
18/02/2017 Virginia Water 3- 1 Worplesdon Phoenix
Surrey County FA Cup
Report by Ceri Jones

It has turned out to be a fantastic week for Virginia Water - reaching the final of the League Cup last week, and now the semi-final of the County Cup with a hard fought win against a physical Worplesdon side.
A customary slow start at The Timbers saw Waters go 1-0 down, when some slack tackling let in the winger, who was brought down inside the penalty area.
Phoenix got lucky from the spot, with a misplaced shot going down the centre when Matt Jones dived to save it.
It could have been worse if not for a terrific save from Jones from a one on one.
Waters had plenty of the ball, with Paul Burrows, Martin Peters, Adam McNamara, Finn Evered and Marc Lansdowne all going close. However Waters knew it was a poor first half at home, where they were second best in most challenges.
After the break Waters picked up the pace and their game, and were soon rewarded when McNamara nodded in from a perfect cross by Burrows.
Then it was one way traffic, with Josh Hill (MoM) getting the second from the spot, after Worplesdon had handled from one of many corners that were forced.
The killer third also soon followed, when Peters teed up Burrows, to smash home from the edge of the box.
It could, and should have been more, with McNamara, Louis Sanders, Peters and a few more lads, all having efforts on goal.
There was a small fright at the other end, when the away side were awarded another penalty, for a push that no one else saw or appealed for, but Worplesdon hit the spot kick wide (but no doubt Jones will claim it as a save!!).
Waters were not troubled in the second half, and it was a much better performance with the result the most important, and could maybe down to Richard Banks’ rousing half time team talk!!
Back to the league next week, with tough games coming thick and fast, starting away at Westside.
Well done lads!!
Happy Days!
