VWFC vs Godalming & Farncombe
19/11/2016 Virginia Water 4 - 1 Godalming & Farncombe
Surrey Elite League
Report by Ceri Jones
A terrific match, in good spirits, saw Waters cement their position in the top three of the league, with games in hand on the teams above.
This was a joy to watch and one of Waters’ best performances of the season, with 14 stand out efforts across the whole squad.
That said it was far from plain sailing. Both sides started brightly, with Adam McNamara and Steve Williams going close, but against the run of play, the visitors rode a few tackles and their striker placed into the far corner to give Matt Jones no chance.
Waters’ response, however, was immediate and impressive. Good interplay between Dan Whatford, Joe McBride and Josh Hill, saw the latter put in a great cross that Williams met with a bullet header into the top left corner of the goal.
The home side kicked on from there, with some eye-catching passing and movement, and the next goals duly followed.
The second came when Max Samyint and Louis Sanders combined to cross into the box that Adam Mills calmly controlled and smashed home.
Then the third, when a cross by Liam Hill was nodded on to McNamara, who pulled the ball back for Sanders to tuck away.
The defence of Josh Hill, Samyint, Finn Evered and Mills held firm and Waters were deservedly up 3-1 at the break.

Man of the match, Dan Whatford
Waters continued the high tempo after the break, but did have Jones to thank for two terrific saves that could have turned the game on its head.
At the other end, Williams, Samyint and McNamara all had chances, and Waters failed to convert many corners.
The lads off the bench made a strong impact, with Andy Ingram, Jake Baker and Mike Chambers making their presence felt, and slotting into the team effortlessly.
The fourth and game clinching goal, came from a sweeping move that saw Dan Whatford (MoM) put through, to drill a low cross to the back post that Adam McNamara slotted home for his well-earned goal.
Waters went on to press for more, with Chambers, McNamara and Baker threatening, and Water’s ball retention was of the highest quality.
A top result, performance and score line against an excellent side.
Well done lads.
