Laleham vs VWFC
10/12/2016 Laleham 0 - 2 Virginia Water
Surrey Elite League Intermediate Challenge Cup
Report by Ceri Jones

Virginia Water bounced back emphatically from last week’s blip as they booked their place in the League Cup Semi-final with a good win over close friends and neighbours Laleham.
A goal in each half from Finn Evered and Adam McNamara, and a strong defensive display puts us on the cusp of a first cup final for a few years!
Waters played the better football and created far more chances, but it could have been different were it not for Matt Jones (joint MoM) saving his fifth penalty from the six the team has conceded.
A number of early chances passed Waters by, with Jake Baker, McNamara and Steve Williams all going close, as well as set pieces causing a number of problems to the home side.
Waters went ahead when Liam Hill (joint MoM) swept in a cross, which Evered turned in at the back post with a deft left foot finish.
The lads at the back defended well with the home side not having many chances of their own, and what they did have was not going to get past Jones in inspired form.
Waters knew Laleham would throw everything at them in the second half, but the away side were well up to the task, and got their second goal after a swift passing move, that saw Hill put McNamara in, to rifle his shot in past their keeper.
It was no more than Waters deserved and indeed they could have scored a few more, with Williams, Marc Lansdowne, McNamara and Gary Clarke all going close.
The result and performance was excellent and Waters can now look forward to a semi-final early in the New Year.
Well done lads!
