VWFC vs AFC Cubo
10/09/2016 Virginia Water 2 - 0 AFC Cubo
Surrey Elite League
Report by Ceri Jones
Virginia Water go marching on, with another dominant display that should have been by a wider winning margin had it not been for some missed chances.
The Clean Sheet factory at the back have now gone 4 games and 400 minutes since conceding, with Matt Jones having one terrific save to make. Other than that the back four of Josh Hill, Marc Lansdowne (MoM), Finn Evered and Max Samyint were comfortable.
Waters went ahead with a fantastic shot into the top corner by Andy Ingram, having previously gone close with efforts from Ryan Curtis, Adam McNamara, Steve Williams, and a disallowed goal that seemed harsh, scored by Lansdowne.
AFC Cubo defended really well against the onslaught from Waters, who had many corners, set pieces and shots, but could not find the second goal until late into the half.
When it came, it was a cracker – a real team goal, with excellent passing, and a final one-two between Hill and Joe McBride, which Hill calmly slotted past the goalkeeper.
At 2-0 at half time, Waters hoped to go on to score a few more, but it wasn’t to be, despite many efforts on goal.
Liam Hill had a strong game in midfield, and put McNamara through, whose cross shot went narrowly wide.
Curtis too had a few attempts, which on another day would have easily gone in.
Hugo Dunkason, Dan Whatford and Adam Mills came on and quickly settled in, keeping up the tempo and creativity.
It was an excellent performance, even if the score did not quite show how on top Waters were – credit to AFC Cubo for keeping them at bay.
Waters stay in 5th, but with the gap at the top is getting ever so closer.
Well done lads!
