VWFC vs Reigate Priory
08/04/2017 Virginia Water 2 - 1 Reigate Priory
Surrey Elite Intermediate League
Report by Ceri Jones

This 9th straight win guarantees Virginia Water a top 2 finish in the league, but significant praise must go to Reigate. Although bottom of the league, they were excellent, showed great fight, and are by far the most improved side in the division.
Waters were made to work hard all the way, with a wonder goal by Adam McNamara (MoM) the difference in a tight and cagey first half.
McNamara’s work rate was impressive throughout and caused the away defence a real headache!
Waters went close many times, with Ryan Curtis hitting the bar, and having some other chances as did a few other players.
At the other end the defence held firm, although Matt Jones was forced into one point-blank one on one save that he had to make.
The stout defence of Reigate was proving difficult to break down indeed!
In the second half Waters extended their lead when Josh Hill scored from the spot, but rather than going on and winning comfortably Reigate dug in and pushed hard, netting a deserved goal of their own fairly late on.
A few more chances came and went with Tom Curran, Steve Williams, Joe McBride and Hill all having efforts on goal without any joy. However, the result and the three points was so important, and Waters achieved exactly that without too many alarms.
Waters now have two testing matches over the bank holiday weekend – Saturday and Monday, which could push them closer to the top of the league and towards a potential decider with Tooting Bec.
Well done lads!
