VWFC v Binfield
19/03/2019 Virginia Water 1-1 Binfield
Hellenic Premier Division

Waters' defender Finn Evered
An entertaining game, in front of a good crowd at Stag Meadow, saw the points shared in this local derby between Virginia Water and Binfield. It was a fair result on the night, but once again, Waters were left to rue some missed chances as they failed to collect all three points - the result of a harsh penalty awarded to the visitors.
The first half belonged to the home side, with Maciej Tajs going close twice – the first a one on one chance that the visiting goalkeeper Dave Lyons did well to save, and the second saw him hit the bar from close range. In addition, the industrious Adam McNamara went close on a few occasions and caused the visitors some problems with his pace.
McNamara got the opening goal on 29 minutes, when he forced goalkeeper Lyons into an error and slotted home from close range. Waters should have built on this, but failed to find the killer second goal that their play deserved.
The second half saw Binfield become the better side, but they were thwarted by some excellent saves by Matt Jones in goal, and good defending, by the back four of Scott Jackson, Steve Williams, Finn Evered and Josh Hill.
On 71 minutes from a Binfield counter attack, Evered slid to cut out a cross but the ball struck his trailing arm, and Waters conceded the equaliser from the resulting spot kick. Both sides went for the win in the latter stages. Hill and Liam Whyte went close, then in the closing minutes, Jamie Reid used his chest to put McNamara through on goal, but his goal bound effort was diverted over by a last ditch defensive tackle.
It was a sporting and enjoyable match between local rivals (and friends at Binfield), with honours even at full time.
