VWFC vs Farleigh Rovers
03/09/2016 Virginia Water 2 - 0 Farleigh Rovers
Surrey Elite League Reserves Division
Report by Rob Lamb
Three well deserved points for Virginia water reserves. Farleigh Rovers started the game well and it took Waters 10 minutes at least to get going. Farleigh Rovers were a well organised and experienced side with some players previously playing in the Ryman league.
The game could have been a lot different, however decisions didn't go Farleighs way and they became frustrated. Virginia Water players could sense the frustration and eventually used this to their advantage. There was neat passing, movement off the ball, talking and energy throughout. Every Virginia Water player played their part in a difficult match.
This was a proper game of football with some strong challenges being put in by both teams. New signings Paul Butler and Dean Guy fitted in the team very well. Dean picked up the man of the match and could have rounded off a perfect afternoon with a couple of goals, but saw his attempts go over the bar and past the post.
Waters went into half time one nil up. Stephen Mills latching on to a perfectly timed and waited through ball from Sam Devoil. Mills finished calmly and slotted the ball past the Farleigh goalie.
A 2nd goal was really needed to calm nerves and eventually it came in the 60th minute when David Atkins scored a header from a well taken Sam Devoil corner.
A difficult game for the waters but apart from the first 10 minutes Waters pretty much controlled the game. It was nice to see injured players and players that couldn't play come down to support the side. Up the waters!!
