Waters in action against Flackwell Heath
It was an agonising defeat for Virginia Water, conceding a sloppy winner with the last kick of the game in the 95th minute, having done so well to fight their way back into the match.
The home side were far the better side in the first half, with Matt Jones and the visiting defence keeping them at bay, albeit Flackwell’s opening goal came from a defensive slip on 37 minutes. When the eventual shot rebounded off a post, Waters were unable to regain possession and Ashley Howell was on hand to slot home to give Flackwell the lead.
Sadly for Waters, Liam Whyte in CM, suffered what looked a horrific injury in a last ditch challenge, and of course we wish him a speedy recovery. Waters extend their thanks to Flackwell and their staff for their assistance in dealing with the situation.
The injury seemed to upset Waters a little, and it took a while to get settled and back in the game. When they did, they missed glaring opportunities to equalise, with Casey Bocarro and Dale Wright both going close, when on another day they would have expected to score.
The second half certainly belonged to the visitors, who after a reshuffle, got a deserved equaliser when Adam Mills headed home a Finn Evered trademark throw in. Both sides went for the win, with both goalkeepers making important saves, and with the game heading for a draw, Waters were unable to get a tackle in, allowing Adam Thomas to turn on the edge of the area and score with the last kick of the game.
It was a strong second half performance by Waters, but ultimately a cruel result for Ceri Jones. Waters wish Flackwell the best of luck for the season.
