VWFC vs Maidenhead United
30/07/2016 Virginia Water 1 - 0 Maidenhead United
Pre-Season Friendly
Report by Ceri Jones
This weekend saw one of Virginia Water’s best results and performances of pre-season so far, against a very quick and organized Maidenhead United side.
Although deserving of the win, the clean sheet was equally pleasing, as we welcomed back Sam and Luke Bersey (MoM) and David Tomkins from last season.
It is testament to Waters' growing strength in depth that the match was won with 6/7 first team squad players unavailable, and so find themselves with strong momentum as the league season approaches.
Waters' early goal came from a through ball by Luke Bersey to Hugo Dunkason, who hit a cross shot for Martin Peters to turn in at the back post.
Waters had some other chances, with Dunkason, Louis Sanders, Jake Baker, Luke Bersey and Steve Williams all going close.
At the other end the defence were solid, with Sanders, Marc Lansdowne, Sam Bersey, Andy Ingram, Liam Hill and the excellent Adam Mills, coping admirably with the threat of our talented opponents.
Matt Jones made a few fine saves of his own to help keep the clean sheet.
Some of the passing, movement and composure was a joy to watch, even if Waters need to take some fitness lessons forward into the next fixture.
Good to have some impact off the bench, with Hill, Sam Devoil, Baker and Sam Bersey, all comfortably slotting into the team with no difficulty.
Top effort lads and now to keep up the drive as competition for places starts to really hot up.
Well done!
