Windsor vs VWFC

16/07/2016 Windsor 1 - 0 Virginia Water
Pre-Season Friendly
Report by Ceri Jones

Virginia Water’s pre-season started with terrific match in very hot conditions, played at the first team’s new home – the amazing Windsor FC!

The hospitality, welcome and the size of the crowd was fantastic, and the players certainly did themselves proud, as for much of the game the visitors were the better side.

It was not a match of many clear cut chances, probably in the region of 10/7 in favour of the home team, but Waters did deserve a draw at least for their efforts and play.

The hosts, two divisions higher, were taken aback by the fluidity of the passing and movement, and had it not been by some close shaves and a save by their keeper from a one on one with Rob Osgood, the result could have been different.

Equally at the other end, Finn Evered made a goal line clearance and Matt Jones pulled off a terrific late save to keep the scoreline at 1-0.

Waters will take a lot from this match, in particular the fitness and intensity levels, but with some more players to come back from holiday, playing on such a good surface and some hard yards in training, Manager Ceri Jones will be confident that Waters will be in for a good season.

Not appropriate to single out too many players on the day, they all put in a fantastic effort, which was applauded by WFC and the circa 150 or so spectators.

Well done one and all
