Changes for Waters for 2019/20 Season
Virginia Water, and Chairman Dave McBride are pleased to announce some big changes for next season at the club. There are some structural and managerial changes that the chairman is hoping will further drive the club forward.
In the very first instance, the club would like to wish a big thank you to Colin Hodgkinson who has stepped down from his roles as Development Manager and also the club's Head of Youth. He guided the Devs to a very respectable position in the Hellenic League Division 2 last season, and was influential in growing the youth section in the last two seasons.
Development coach Dave Atkins has moved from the Development Team to the 1st Team to assist Manager Ceri Jones, so together with Richard Banks and Matt Edwards this completes a four man management team.
Colin and Dave are being replaced by last year’s Reserves management team of Matt Gullick (Manager) and Dave Guy (Asst Manager). Matt has coached at all age groups and County sides in Berkshire and played at Southampton’s Centre of Excellence with spells at Chippenham Town as well as Fleet Town before joining Virginia Water in the 2017/18 season. The Development Team will be coached by Paul Seymour, alongside his U18's role.
The youth section of the club will now be headed by Dan Basheer, in a continuation of his secretarial role of the youth club. Dan has been a player at the club for many years and also played at Staines Town, Cobham and Abbey Rangers and was also one of the founder members of the current youth setup with a junior team at its inception.
Of the appointments, McBride was effusive with his praise, "I would like to express my gratitude to Colin for his excellent work at the club with the Development team. I’m sure Matt and Dave will continue their good work in developing the talented youth within the club.
"I am also pleased to announce that our youth section will be headed by Dan Basheer. Dan is taking over from Colin who is stepping down having had two great years in charge taking the number of junior teams from three to eight, I hope Colin will remain involved in the club at some level. Dan is currently the Youth Section Secretary as well as the highest qualified coach at the club (hoping to achieve Level 3 this year). I’m sure under Dan’s guidance the Youth section will continue to develop and grow."
